LH GIRLS SOCCER ATHLETES VS. EPILEPSY FUNDRAISING PAGE!

Our 4TH Annual Athletes vs. Epilepsy Game will take place on Thursday September 26th in honor of one of our former teammates and all she taught us!

Kaitlyn Wells joined the LH Girls Soccer program in 2019 as a freshman taking on the role of Team Manager. In 2020, she was offered a spot on the team due to her hard work and dedication. That season Kaitlyn had a seizure while training on the track. Despite this challenge, she didn't give up and continued with a positive attitude. In 2021, while riding the school bus back from participating in the annual parade with the team, Kaitlyn had another seizure in front of her teammates. That seizure led to 7 more that day. That did not stop Kaitlyn. She continued and strived to make changes to continue to be a part of this team! To help stop her seizures, Kaitlyn began a very strict diet.  The diet was very hard for a high school athlete, but she persevered.

That same year is when the LH Girls Soccer program decided to show Kaitlyn the same strength and dedication and began the Athletes vs Epilepsy Annual Game to raise awareness of her condition.

Our goal in raising funds for Epilepsy is to support the education, safety and training within the schools for those living with Epilepsy. At that time, it was not required for Ohio schools to have this kind of training. In the last 2 years the LH Girls Soccer program has succeeded and raised over $4,000 to fund the training for 4 Seizure Safe Schools so far! And the best news, not only are we continuing to raise these important funds, but it is also now REQUIRED for Ohio schools to be seizure safe under the newly signed SARAH's LAW. Read more about Sarah's story and the law here: https://www.epilepsy-ohio.org/.../sarahs-law-for-seizure...

Kaitlyn graduated from Licking Heights and now attends Capital University.  She has continued the diet and has been seizure free for almost three years.  She advocates for others with Epilepsy and participated in the signing of Sarah’s Law mentioned above.  She is hopeful that Sarah’s Law can be expanded to colleges and universities. Kaitlyn intends to become an Elementary School teacher and continue advocating for herself and others with Epilepsy.
